Life as I know it - Simone Lahbib

Sunday Express Magazine

Wire in the Blood star Simone, 42, lives in London with her actor husband Raffaello Degruttola and daughter Skye, 22 months

If I could change anything about myself I'd... have a better sense of direction because mine's ridiculous. I can get lost going round the corner to the shops.

The most romantic thing anyone's ever done for me is... when my husband Raffaello suggested replacing my wedding and engagement rings as an anniversary present. They were stolen a couple of years ago and he knows how much they meant to me. Not a lot of people know this but I'm very good at... losing mobile phones.

To wake myself up I... have a toddler, who finds it hilarious to jump up and down on our bed then dive-bomb our heads. It's kind of rendered the alarm clock redundant.

Last thing at night I... do the whole bedtime routine with my daughter Skye, then go back and catch a little telly. That's my time. My happy place is... at home with the family in London. We're normally so busy working or travelling - which is lovely - but it's always great to come home. My best friend is... I have two actually, and the three of us go back a long way. It's lovely to have friends who know you so well. They give me the best advice. The worst thing you could say to me is... lie about something I'm supposed to have said.

The best thing my parents taught me was... affection. They are very loving people and I've passed that on to my daughter; she's such an affectionate little girl.

If I can I always try to avoid... smoky places. I gave up three years ago and I've hated cigarettes ever since.

It's not good for my image but I like... musicals. Skye loves films like Annie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I find myself enjoying them all over again with her.

If I could pass any law it would be... to promote the production of environment-friendly cars. I drive... an Audi estate which we're hoping to change for a hybrid soon.

The song I can never get out of my head is... lots of Italian tunes. Raffaello's written a script for a feature film with a strong Italian storyline and he's been researching some of the music for it.

My biggest regret is... not starting my family earlier. Once you have a child you realise how great it is and you want a whole big brood. Obviously, it's all a bit late for me now, although another one would be wonderful. My sister has eight kids -I used to think she was mad...

My proudest moment was... seeing my brother Stephen fronting his band Mama Mayhem. They're gigging at the moment and getting a lot of great feedback.

The shop I can't walk past without buying something is... any children's shop. It's like I've lost interest in shopping for myself because I'm so wrapped up in buying everything for Skye. I could open a play area at home with all the toys I've bought and our garden is filled with swings, slides and sandpits.

The most expensive thing I've ever splashed out on is... holidays. I think it's important to be comfortable when you're travelling with kids.

I always laugh at... my husband.

When I need to wind down I... watch TV with a glass of red wine.

I know I'm having a bad hair day when I... look in the mirror first thing in the morning.

The last film I saw was... The Lives of Others. It's a German film set just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's a beautiful story.

The best day of my life was... maybe not the day I had Skye - because I was a bit out of it - but the day after. There are just no words to describe the feeling of holding your baby for the first time.

My favourite place in Britain is.. Scotland.

My favourite restaurant is... the Oxo Tower. The food's great, but it'; that fantastic view of London that does it for me.

My last holiday was... LA in November. We stayed in the most fantastic complex with a gym and a pool and the beach was just across the street. I'd really like to go back.

My last meal would be... spaghetti and meatballs made by my mother-in-law. Perfect. © Wire in the Blood is on I7V1 later this month.
