SCOTS actress Simone Lahbib will replace Cold Feet star Hermione Norris in the new series of ITV thriller Wire In The Blood next year.

Simone, 40, who became a first time mum with actor hubby Raffaello Degruttola last month, will play the female lead opposite Robson Green in the cop drama.

An ITV insider revealed: "Simone's delighted to be joining up with Robson for series four of Wire"Filming doesn't start until January, so that suits her well as she's wants to spend lots of time with baby Skye.

"Simone's character is entirely new, and she's still being developed.

"Hermione has also had a baby, but she felt it was time to move on to new projects after three series of Wire.

"Her character DCI Carol Jordan hasn't been killed off."

Stirling born Simone, who shot to fame as bisexual prison warden Helen Stewart in ITV's Bad Girls, appeared BBC1's Monarch of The Glen as a city slicker back to tie up her grandmother's estate.

She has also recently finished filming a movie with Grease and West Wing star Stockard Channing called Red Mercury Rising.

She got her break in 1999 in The Young Person's Guide to Being a Rock Star.

Wire In The Blood is inspired by the gritty novels of Scots author and former Daily Record journalist Val McDermid, from Kirkcaldy
